Introduction

Adapted physical education is designed to help disabled people, elderly people and children with physical, mental and social limitations adapt to society, improve their physical fitness for life, improve self-expression, and achieve social and emotional stability. It is aimed at improving the ability to become an independent human being. Particularly, our department is not just Special Physical Education but it is Adapted P. E, so a wide range of subjects to participate in as well as traditional sports programs, with modified rules and methods. Therefore, we want to implement not only the improvement of exercise functions, but also the possibility of rehabilitation, the provision of participation opportunities, and the strengthening of ties with non-disabled people.

Specialization

The Department of Adapted Physical Education not only teaches students to be instructors for various physical education programs and theory, but we also provide students with the opportunity to acquire dual majors and various national qualifications related to physical education and sports for the disabled, provide opportunities for on-the-job experience through internships, and actively support the employment network through the Adapted Physical Education alumni lectures. Also, the Hanshin Together Festival is held every year to invite children with disabilities and their families to the school for the development and popularization of the Department of Adapted Physical Education. It is a festival that opens a meeting place for children and youth with disabilities living in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon areas. It is a place where families living with the same pain exchange information and where non-disabled people hang out and communicate with people with disabilities.

Academic Goals

Adapted physical education studies as subjects the physically, mentally, and socially challenged people, including the physically disabled, the elderly and children. Meaning can be found in that these people will develop the physical strength needed to carry on with their lives, satisfy their need for self-expression and physical activities thus leading to social and emotional stability, and their physical motor functions will be rehabilitated or stimulated enabling them to be more independent.
In order to respond to the demands of the times, this major aims to nurture professional educators such as elderly physical education specialists, senior home specialists, sports instructors, physical education specialists for the disabled, specialist for children’s physical education, etc.

The Department Adapted Physical Education aims to educate an integrated intellectual, a participatory, intelligent, and a global citizen in the neighborhood who is in charge of their professional field and responds to the demands of the times.
